Fun Fact: The UC Riverside chapter was Friends of Dialysis’ very first official chapter! It laid the foundation for the network of chapters that exist today and inspired the organization’s growth.

About the Chapter:
The UC Riverside chapter began with a small group of passionate students led by Alaa’i , whose vision was to make dialysis care more compassionate and connected. Alaa’i worked to build partnerships with dialysis centers, recruit and train volunteers, and turn what started as a small campus effort into the foundation for a sustainable nonprofit. Though the process was challenging—balancing academics, outreach, and nonprofit development—it set the groundwork for what would become Friends of Dialysis. Through her leadership, the UCR chapter became the model that inspired every chapter that followed, proving that one student’s determination can spark a movement rooted in empathy, advocacy, and hope for kidney patients everywhere.
