How We Began.
It all begins with an idea.
Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Or maybe you want to create something that brings light into other people’s lives. That’s how Friends of Dialysis was born.
For Dr. Alaa’I Alshabrawy, it all began with caring for a loved one who was diagnosed with end stage renal disease for the course of 16 years. Her strength, resilience, and the struggles she faced became the inspiration behind this nonprofit. Watching someone you love endure dialysis is not easy—it's emotional, exhausting, and often isolating. But from that deeply personal experience came a powerful idea: What if no one had to go through it alone?
So Friends of Dialysis was created — a growing community built on compassion, support, and real-life experience. It's more than just a nonprofit. It’s a movement of people who care, who show up, and who believe in making life just a little bit better for those affected by kidney disease.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound human. Sound real. That’s how this all started, and that’s how it will continue to grow. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but this one? This one has heart.
As you follow our journey, know that we’re still evolving. This isn’t the final version — it’s just where we are right now. And that’s the beauty of it. The story isn’t over.
We’re just getting started.
